My Cover!
I rearranged the song "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by Jet. I put a jazzy twist on the song and the instrumentation includes; Jazz Organ, Electric Bass Guitar, Body Percussion all on synthesiser, Vocals (by me!), and Drum Loops. I changed the structure and tone colour of the piece by eliminating a verse and using very different instruments to the original!

The Original
My cover of "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" changes some concepts of music, but I kept the melody and harmony the same, so it would be a recogniseable cover. When comparing it to the original though, the tone colour is probably the most different. Jet used piercing, wicked electric guitars and I used mellow jazz organs and little snapping noises!
I managed to change the structure and take the whole second verse out of the song! That's why structure is also one of the key things I changed.

I also had a change in duration, making the notes longer and swingier, but that is not my main component I changed.

I created my cover with Logic Pro X and recorded the vocal line with my microphone. Everything else (except the drum loops) I played on keyboard, including the clicks, which is extra but it sounded better anyway.
The thing I found most difficult in this task was the notating. I decided to do it on Logic Pro X and it made it a quite difficult task, but it also meant that the bass-line and organs were already notated correctly, so I played the keyboard along to the melody of my voice and then added lyrics and labeled it "Vocals" in order to get that right, and I played the drums on my keyboard to match it up to the loops, which I then notated to fit drum sheet music.

Overall, this experience was very educational and emotionally exausting, but I got there in the end! Yay! :)
