Classical Composition!

Assessment Task 4 Classical composition

The instruments I am going to use is a Cello, Two Violins and a Double Bass. It's a string quartet!

PDF of my classical notation!!

The second half of my composition! After the complex melody in bars 9-12, inversion in bars 13-16! Wow! I have the bass instruments playing an inverted version of the melody, and the two treble instruments playing a chordal accompaniment.

Then, bars 17-20 there is a staccato melody line played by the first violin, with harmonising melodic hook by the second violin and the motif repeated in its original form by the cello, with the double bass playing - you guessed it - a bass line.

Some changes I made were just things from mistakes. I made a few clashing chords here and there, and though "why bother fixing them?" but, I fixed them and I'm glad I did, because it's so much easier to listen to.

Another change was I initially wanted to put in a verse that was just the bass instruments, playing the plain melody, but then I just decided it was a bit boring and I needed to spice up my piece a bit more anyway.

My composition is going to start with the basic melody, following a only slightly different motif with a harmonising accompaniment, then suddenly, fortissimo! Wow! A complicated melody and quite a contrast from the last verse.

And to finish the song, in bars 21-22 there's a canon, making all the different layers harmonise beautifully, then 23-24 round up all the instruments for the final motif. Bars 25-28 finish the song with a simple unison melody and a harmonising coda.
